Parking Policies for Shared Mobility

The challenges related to the PARSMO project include the increasing pressure of private cars on public spaces in European cities, the need to promote sustainable alternatives such as public transport, walking, and cycling, and the lack of effective frameworks for shared mobility parking. Although shared mobility is emerging as a viable option, promoting its growth and addressing associated parking challenges remain significant barriers. Effective parking policies for shared mobility are essential to achieving sustainable urban mobility and moving towards a zero-carbon economy.

The aim of the project is to develop and improve parking policies that support shared mobility, thereby reducing private car ownership, minimizing the spatial impact of cars and shared services, and lowering emissions. The project’s innovative focus on parking policies sets it apart from other shared mobility initiatives, while also promoting the overall concept of shared mobility in areas where it is less developed.

The main objectives of the project are:

  • Integrate shared mobility into housing developments and local/regional bylaws.
  • Optimize intermodal hubs to reduce car dependency.
  • Develop balanced parking policy frameworks for shared mobility services.
  • Promote the benefits of shared mobility to stakeholders.

By enhancing policy instruments, PARSMO aims to foster sustainable mobility transitions, leverage best practices identified across Europe, and create long-lasting impacts in the participating regions.
